CANNES : THE FASHION ROUND-UP

Once a year, our favourite fashionista’s flock to the South of France for11 days of working the red carpet in the best couture there is.
From the maxi’s, midi’s to mini’s, through to the sculpted, grecian and bold, this year’s Cannes Film Festival demonstrated that the ladies of the big screen know how to wow on the red carpet.
Rarely seen making a fashion slip-up, Diane Kruger continued her renowned reputation wearing a Chanel short jacquard white prom dress, vintage inspired Nina Ricci gown, a slinky sequin number designed by Vivienne Westwood, and of course not forgetting, the Giambatista Valli couture mint one-shoulder gown. This lady, did not miss a trick. And to top it all off, she had Joshua Jackson on her arm, the ultimate accessory surely??

Glamour magazine certainly knew what they were talking about when they named Kristen Stewart as the best dress woman of the year.  She wowed us at instinct PR HQ with her array of on-trend and feminine outfits. A particular favourite, was her final look of the festival with the gorgeous bright red Reem Acra gown with racy lace inserts. She definitely saved the best till last.
Accompanying Miss Stewart on many appearances throughout the festival, was Kirsten Dunst. After a few years of fashion misses and going AWOL on the red carpet, Kirsten came back with a vengeance, rocking a maxi dress in an acquatic-hued Louis Vuitton, a midi in a white Dolce & Gabana creation, and was bold and beautiful in a shocking pink Dior gown.
Whilst the top of the class were claiming fashion A*’s, Geraldine Danon must have missed the seminar that day, opting for a pink and green shapeless dress, alongside Delphine Chaneac in a badly tailored cream suit. Criminal.

As Cannes now closes, the majority of film favourites can graduate from this week’s presentation with distinction, and prepare for the fashion interrogation of Cannes 2013.

All Were Beaming at AW12 Panache Press Day

A surprisingly scorching Wednesday in May saw us hold Panache’s AW12 press day.
May 23rd was all about walking into the high, grand ceilings and the beautiful 40′s decor of House of St Barnabas, which was our venue for the day.

Debuting the on-trend ranges for the coming season from Superbra, Cleo, Masquerade, Sport and Swimwear, we saw 120 journalists turn up for a view of the collection, a quick chat and a very cool glass of water.

Complete with divine cupcakes, vintage crockery and enviable furniture from the French Bedroom Company, the Panache collections looked fabulous and wowed all the attendees.

From 9am-7pm, we had the pleasure of talking to an array of journalists from our favourite publications, including Vogue, InStyle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Fabulous, Look, Heat, Grazia (need we go on??) learning  all about their weekend tales and summer wardrobe insights. However, most shocking of all, for them and us, was that many were wearing the wrong bra size.

Exclusively fitted by the Panache wizards, 80% of our ladies were wearing the wrong size bra, and if Panache can tell you anything, your outerwear starts from the underwear.

So all in all, it was a thoroughly successful (and very hot) day. The weather was definitely on our side but we also had a fabulous venue and collection to showcase.
Thank you to all who came and, of course, to the Panache and instinct teams who worked really hard to make it a great day.

Did we mention our campaign was in PR Week??

By Jonathan Kirkby, Founder and Director of instinct pr

After nearly 12 years of working in PR, I’ve always wanted a PR campaign in PR Week and this week we achieved just over a page and a half in our industry bible for our PR launch of the Panache Sports Bra.

Panache was a founding client for instinct pr and as part of their brief they asked us to launch their revolutionary new sports bra to UK media. Being a guy I was unable to test the bra myself but the ladies of instinct pr towers tested it and gave it two thumbs up. Next stop was to take the bra to press and ask them to trial it – the overwhelming result was 10 out of 10 in a number of leading magazines.

We knew then that we had a press winner on our hands and that we had to just run with it and get blanket coverage. We decided that no publication would be left out and we embarked on a solid media relation campaign that generated over 40 pieces of coverage, including half a page in the Daily Mail.

Off the back of our PR campaign Panache picked up a number of new stockists, including John Lewis, and the bra was the biggest selling product on figleaves.com for 7 consecutive weeks.

Creating a press worthy campaign on so many levels has been a career highlight and a definite highlight of instinct pr’s first year. I have no doubt that there’ll be lots more – watch this space.

Met Ball 2012 – Fashion Hits and Misses

Last night saw the New York Metropolitan Museum of Arts play host to the Annual Costume Institute Gala, or “the best night of fashion ever” to you and I.

It was a feast for your eyes if you enjoy a good celebrity spot and a bit of fashion, from Jessica Alba to Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyonce to Rihanna. We’ve cast our eye over them all and picked out the best and worst dressed for you to ponder over.

What do you think?

In our first fashion misses we have Beyonce in one of her first major red carpet appearances since the birth of her baby Blue. She wore a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci embellished gown with feather train. At first we thought she had brought her own rug to stand on, but no it was the dress.

Kristen Stewart also had an unfortunate miss in a Balenciaga colour-block dress. We think it’s the strange laced shoes that makes her look weird, what was she thinking?

Final worst dressed goes to Leighton Meester who was seriously tangoed! And her dress is too Disney Princess for our liking..

Luckily there were many hits on the red carpet that gave us some delight on a Tuesday morning.

Winners for us were January Jones and Solange Knowles who both shone in yellow Versace and Rebecca Roy respectively, Jessica Alba who gleamed in gold, SJP who wore a quirky patterned dress (not sure about the matching shoes though), Scarlett J made a cool 80s style couture dress look effortless with messy hair and no jewellery, and in a shock move, Renee Zellwegger didn’t wear Carolina Herrera! She did however rock in a black, backless Pucci number.

My first week at Instinct PR

Last week was all a bit of blur, having my last 3 days as an in-house PR Executive, to one day off where it was spent at the dentist having the joy of a crown being fitted and cleaning up after my adorable (albeit, nightmare) dog, which swiftly brought me to Friday where I started my new (dream) job.
Since my first year at University, PR was always the plan (having a sister in journalism proved extremely helpful when it came to career advice), being a girl that LOVES socialising and talking to every Tom, Dick or Harry, this path was the perfect fit. Following MANY an internship in PR agencies, the buzz was like nothing else, then upon graduating in 2010, the PR career took a different turn to in-house…which ended up being my plan for almost two years, amazing experience, but now I sit behind my desk and back on the original route.
Walking into the Instinct PR offices was petrifying, but after 5 minutes of being greeted my colleagues, those fears were left far behind and now on my 6th full day, I may as well be part of the furniture. Some may say I’m sad, but I have been beaming ear to ear since starting here, the tremendous work load, the late nights and continual life-lesson of multi-tasking has been tested to the highest level, but I don’t think I could love it more…I see where this is going, the bitter spinster, career woman is showing it’s icy head.
The office is atmospheric and electric, and a mutual love for ‘adult’ drinks and Made In Chelsea has cemented the perfect team balance. I am so excited for all that’s to come, the rapid showing of grey hairs, as well as having the opportunity to regurgitate the classic pieces of my wardrobe…I am the girl you won’t see in an outfit twice.
Now as we enter the 3 day weekend, I will find myself on Monday night bouncing off the walls, ready and raring to go for a very busy, and EXCITING week in Instinct PR HQ!
